CUJLS Terms of Submission
By submitting work to the Carleton University Journal of Legal Studies and complying with the electronic signature requirement on the online submission form, or by signing the hard copy of the submission form, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
1. All submissions must contain the name of the author. No anonymous submissions will be accepted.
2. All submissions must be the original work of the author.
3. All submissions must be included as a PDF or MS Word attachment via the online submission form or must be submitted in hard-copy, with a hard copy of the submission form, to the Carleton University Legal Studies Society office.
4. Submissions should contain a suggestion for title once published, however, these are subject to the discretion of the editorial staff and may be changed at the time of publication, without prior notice to the author.
5. All submissions must be double-spaced and in 12 point Times New Roman font.
6. Margins must be 1-inch on all sides.
7. All legal citations to cases in manuscripts submitted for publication should adhere to the format requirements of The Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation (popularly known as “the McGill Guide”), 6th or 7th Edition.
8. Citations are required for substantive claims and material quoted from other sources.
9. Submissions of any length will be considered but we recommend no more than 30 typed pages double spaced (not including citations).
10. All submissions must contain a maximum-200 word abstract detailing the topic of your paper and the argument you pursue. Abstracts should be attached at the beginning of your submission.
By complying with the electronic signature requirements on the online submission form, or by signing the hard-copy submission form you affirm that:
- You have complied with the Submission Guidelines found above.
- All work submitted is your own work and does not in any way infringe upon the rights of any other publication.
- You understand that all citations may be checked for accuracy and authenticity.
- The CUJLS has your express permission to edit and modify your article to conform to the standards of the publication. No major changes will be made without your prior approval (excluding titles).
- You authorize the CUJLS to disclose your name and other information should your article be selected for publication.
