Moot Team

The Carleton Moot Team is a sub-group of the Law Society and competes annually at both the Osgoode Cup (held at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University) and the Capital Cup National Undergraduate Mooting Tournament. If you’re currently a student at Carleton, either  in the Department of Law & Legal Studies, or studying in a related discipline, and you would like to learn more about getting involved with the Moot Team, please contact us.

How would mooting benefit me as a legal studies student at Carleton?

Mooting tournaments allow students to gain a strong understanding of the law dealt with in the factual case, the court procedure, legal research and writing, and oral advocacy skills. A number of these skills are touched upon in the current Department of Law curriculum at Carleton but mooting allows students to gain a thorough understanding of the above areas beyond the classroom in a team-oriented environment. Furthermore, mooting provides for collaborative work between Carleton students and faculty who assist by judging or guiding the team. The mooting experience is immeasurable in its importance to the study of law at Carleton and beyond Carleton in law school or the work field.
