Law at Carleton

Carleton University’s Department of Law & Legal Studies, a part of the Faculty of Public Affairs, offers one of the largest undergraduate legal studies programs available as well as superb  MA and PhD programs.

With almost 100 courses offered during the course of the regular academic year as well as over 250 undergraduate students admitted each year and a total of approximately 1300 undergraduate and graduate students at any given time, the department is among the most important and vibrant that Carleton has to offer.

Law at Carleton isn’t limited to case law and statutes. Students are exposed to legislation and jurisprudence but also gain insights into the social, economic, political and cultural aspects of the legal system. Many faculty members and instructors are licenced or practising lawyers, have conducted and published innovative and important research and are all experts in their fields.

In addition to a large syllabus of courses, the Department of Law also offers a wide range of academic support to its students including dedicated teaching staff, faculty advisors, the Chet Mitchell Reading Room and numerous legal research resources.

We have compiled a large amount of information and support materials here and we encourage you to browse through this section of our website if you need help with legal research, information about courses or other law-related support.
